In 1966, when the fate of the complex looked to be demolition and high-end apartments, perhaps a shopping mall, a random fire broke out on June 26, burning the baths to their foundation. In 1980, the National Park Service bought the land and added it to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

In this final clip, from the 1958 film, The Lineup, note the skating rink, which replaced the largest pool in 1937.

Always been one of my favorite places to visit in San Francisco. Especially since they filmed part of “Harold and Maude” there! Enjoyed seeing the juxtaposition of photos.
